OUR PASSION
Supporting Astronomy Education (E Tautāwhi ana i te Tātai Arorangi)
EducationWe believe that education in general is one of the most important tasks in our society, because this gives the young generation the basis they need to take their responsibility to shape the future. The better we provide that education as teachers or parents, the more hope there is for the future. Besides, education is not only for young people. Society needs life-long learners. Recognising that learners will necessarily use their natural creativity, our resources aim at individualised learning; we deliberately do not follow any curriculum. We want to support educators - in the broadest sense of the word - as well as those who want to learn. In many cases these will be the same people. Educators are those that facilitate learning. We aim to support that within the realm of Astronomy and Space Sciences. |
AstronomyAstronomy is one of the oldest sciences and since the dawn of civilisation, scholars and lay people alike have been looking up to the night sky in bewilderment and fascination. Modern Astronomy is exciting while it is developing very rapidly and it is hard to find anyone who does not have a basic interest in the night sky or would not like to know more about the background of all the research that is going on. Therefore Astronomy is a “gateway science” that gets people automatically interested in the underlying sciences, such as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Not every young person will become an astronomer just because they took an interest in astronomy. But through this interest they will get into other fields of science and engineering in which they can make important contributions. |
"And even without a particular career path in science, technology or engineering, the natural fascination that one can have for the world of Astronomy can be immensely satisfying and can form the basis for one’s views on the meaning of life and of our place in the Universe". Erik Vermaat
